The Hamilton Cams 07-S-003 Valve Springs are designed to improve valvetrain control in 1998.5–2018 Dodge Ram trucks equipped with the 5.9L or 6.7L Cummins diesel engine. Factory 24-valve springs typically provide only 78–82 lbs of seat pressure at 1.380 inches, which can be insufficient for modified engines running elevated boost or exhaust drive pressure. When boost levels exceed approximately 35 PSI, factory springs may allow intake or exhaust valves to open prematurely, negatively impacting engine efficiency and power production.

Upgraded Hamilton valve springs increase seat pressure and improve valve control to prevent valve float and reversion under high boost conditions. Reversion occurs when exhaust gases are pushed back into the cylinder during the intake stroke, introducing inert gases that reduce available oxygen for combustion. This can delay combustion timing, lower peak cylinder pressure and temperature, and lengthen the burn time of injected fuel. By maintaining proper valve seating under higher cylinder pressures, these springs help maintain efficient combustion and consistent engine performance.

The Hamilton 103# springs feature an optimized design that balances increased valve control with long-term valvetrain reliability. Nose pressure has been refined to approximately 180 lbs, reducing excessive stress on the camshaft compared to higher-rate springs that can exceed 250 lbs. This design helps protect camshaft longevity while still delivering the control required for performance diesel applications.
